Data Center Consolidation ... at the State Level!

In 2007 the National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) published its results from an interesting state level survey of data center consolidation efforts.

Even in 2007 the survey results showed that 27 of the 29 responding states reported at least some type of data center consolidation activity either in progress or proposed.

Of particular note was the fact that the major driver for change was not reported to be cost, but actually disaster recovery.

Also of particular note was that the states reported the key obstacle to change to be human capital (workforce resistance to change), not cost or technologies.
