In late December the Federal CIO Council's Architecture and Infrastructure Committee approved the release of the widely anticipated Federal Segment Architecture Methodology (FSAM). Check out the FSAM at www.fsam.gov
Why should you care? Well, for starters, this is the first time that the federal EA community has assembled to articulate HOW segment architectures should be developed and used. Up to this point, there has been a lot of attention given to defining "segment architecture" as a concept. Finally the release of the FSAM gives the federal EA community a common step-by-step approach and language -- we've moved from theory to practical application! Congrats to the Federal Segment Architecture Working Group (FSAWG) chaired by Colleen Coggins (Chief Architect, DOI), leadership from Kshemendra Paul (Chief Architect, OMB), and with participants from 13 federal organizations and initiatives.
The FSAM is a wonderful product. Look for the FSAM to be quickly adopted by many federal agencies, tool vendors, and consulting firms. Phase One Consulting Group has already trained 20 people in the FSAM and will be deploying it within 5 federal clients in the coming weeks.
